Writ of possession in Georgia — the paper that authorizes setout
A writ of possession is what the executing office uses to restore the premises after judgment. EvictIQ is not a law firm and does not provide legal advice. We help apply for the writ, calendar the office, and run the setout with movers and a locksmith. We do not execute a writ we do not have.
Tell us where the writ stands
Judgment only, writ issued, or you are not sure. A writ already in hand should also be a call.
What's included
- Writ application and follow-up after judgment
- Calendar with the sheriff or, in Fulton County, the Marshal's Department
- Setout crew, officer coordination, and lock change after lawful possession
- Link through to writ of possession assistance and writ-of-possession help
- Written price before we schedule the executing office
What's not
- Legal advice or representation
- A setout without a court-issued writ
- Self-help lockouts
EvictIQ is not a law firm and does not provide legal advice. A writ of possession is a court paper. We run the operations around it. Courts and executing offices set their own schedules.
Writ versus setout versus lockout
The writ is the authorization. The setout is the move-out on that date. A lockout without a writ is illegal self-help — we decline it. If you already have the writ and need the crew, use writ of possession help or eviction setout services.
When you need this
Use this when judgment is in and you need the writ applied for, or the writ is issued and you need the executing office and movers on a date. Related catalog page: writ of possession assistance.
The next step
Send the county and case number. If the writ is already issued, call (678) 300-5766. Nothing starts until you approve a written scope.

Common questions
Can you set out without a writ of possession?
No. We do not run a setout or a lock change as a substitute for a court-issued writ.
Who executes the writ in Fulton County?
In Fulton County the Marshal's Department executes. Other Georgia counties use the sheriff. We calendar the correct office.
