Post-eviction lock changes after Georgia possession

The unit is not yours in practice until prior keys fail. After the writ is executed we rekey or replace hardware so the last occupant, cousins, and old vendors are out of the cylinders.

What's included

  • Lock change after lawful possession only
  • Keyed openings on the unit scoped before the tech arrives
  • New keys issued to the person you name
  • Photo of the secured door for the file
  • Same-day add if the setout crew is already booked

What's not

  • Lock changes while the tenant still has possession
  • Legal advice or representation
  • A full hardware remodel unless you scope it

EvictIQ is not a law firm and does not provide legal advice. We do not change locks or remove belongings without a court-issued writ. Self-help lockouts are illegal and we decline those requests.

Locksmith coordination is the setout-morning lock. Post-eviction lock changes is the rekey after you already have the unit — or the extra cylinders the morning crew did not finish. Lock-change services covers vacant and REO work that is not tied to a setout day. None of these is a self-help lockout.

When you need this

Use this after the executing office has completed the lockout and you need prior keys dead. If the locksmith is supposed to stand with the officer that morning, use locksmith coordination. If there is no eviction and the house is just vacant, use lock-change services.

The next step

Send the address, county, and whether the writ is already executed. If execution is this week, call (678) 300-5766 so we can keep one tech on the morning schedule. We will not change locks on an occupied unit without a writ.

Service area. Georgia only. We file, serve and run setouts across metro Atlanta and surrounding counties — Fulton, Gwinnett, DeKalb, Cobb, Clayton, Henry, Cherokee and Hall. If your property is outside Georgia we'll tell you rather than take the lead.

Common questions

Can you rekey if I only have a judgment?

No. Judgment is not possession. Wait for the writ and the executing office. Related: writ of possession assistance.

Do you change mailbox and storage locks too?

Tell us every opening you want controlled. Mailbox rules vary. We scope what you list rather than assuming the front door is enough.

Faster than any form(678) 300-5766 Mon–Fri, and anything with a writ should be a call

  • The signed lease and any addenda
  • Your current ledger, reconciled
  • Proof of the demand for possession, if made
  • Anything already filed — case number, hearing date, judgment or writ
  • Access details for the property
What happens next
  • A coordinator reviews it, usually the same business day.
